Have you seen the protein coffee trend on socials? I was pretty skeptical of putting protein in my latte. I love a good, homemade latte and didn't want to change it up.
However, one day I hadn't eaten lunch and needed something fast, so I whipped this up and was surprised – it was like a hot mocha latte and it had 23 grams of protein!
Here’s exactly how I make my protein coffee. Let me know if you try it!
Before making the latte, let’s chat about this lovely line up:
Creambrook raw milk, Creambrook chocolate milk mix, 2 shots of espresso (decaf for me), Lineage creatine, Heart & Soil chocolate sea salt whey protein.
the coffee: I prefer decaf coffee because caffeine makes my mind fuzzy. I know, it’s the opposite effect of what caffeine promised to be, so decaf it is! I look for a “Swiss water process” decaf since it should be produced without chemicals. To make this, pull two shots of espresso or make 1 cup of hot coffee.
the milk: delicious, grass fed & lab tested raw milk from beautiful Jersey cows. :) I froth our raw milk with my espresso machine, but you can find simple, home latte frothers or steamers, or whisk it while warming on the stove. Creambrook raw milk has 10 grams of protein in just 8 oz!
the chocolate milk mix: herd share members can purchase our unique mix on our online store - it has clean, straightforward ingredients and tastes incredible without any thickeners or weird ingredients. Alternatively, sub with cocoa powder and maple syrup.
the creatine: Ben and I have enjoyed experimenting with adding creatine to our routine. It’s completely optional, so don’t worry if you don’t have some. I like to add it in as an easy way to get some extra energy, because as a busy mom, I need it. ;)
the whey protein: Heart & Soil makes a nice, clean whey protein that I’ve found to be gently on the stomach and has wholesome ingredients. One scoop has 12.5 grams of protein. (Two scoops is a serving size). Find a protein that you like, and my recommendation is to find one made from an animal, not a plant.
Ingredients:
2 shots of espresso or hot coffee
8 oz Creambrook raw milk
1 TBSP Creambrook chocolate milk mix (or 2 tsp cocoa powder & 1 TBSP maple syrup)
1 scoop whey protein powder, chocolate
1-2 scoops creatine (optional)
additional maple syrup if you like a sweeter coffee
Let’s get started!
Pull espresso shots or brew your coffee. It needs to be hot.
Froth & warm the milk with a frother or using a whisk in a saucepan on the stove.
In a favorite mug, mix the espresso with the chocolate milk mix or cocoa & maple syrup, creatine (optional), and protein powder.
Pour the frothy milk into the latte.
Add more maple syrup if you desire a sweeter latte.
Enjoy!
