Meet Butter, the Calf

We had been watching the cows and the weather forecast, and on Sunday night the temps were in the single digits when Blossom went into labor in the corral with fluffy corn fodder bedding. We checked often and after an hour, a baby heifer was born.

Both cow and calf were doing well, but the real feel temp was -10 F, so Ben brought the calf into the basement and we warmed up colostrum.

I named the calf “Butter” (since we’re naming “dairy & cheese themed names” for Fall & Winter calves) and it starts with a “B,” like her mom. :) Butter drank a bottle of colostrum for her first two meals and is thriving!
